Rare after-hours experience comes to York Museum Gardens this summer 

Visitors are invited to experience York Museum Gardens like never before as the historic gardens open after hours for a brand-new evening events this August. 

For two exclusive Friday evenings, 14 and 28 August 2026, guests can enjoy Evening in the Gardens, a relaxed adults-only experience offering rare access to one of York’s most beautiful green spaces after the gardens have closed to the public. 

Normally closing at 5pm, York Museum Gardens will reopen exclusively for ticket holders from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, giving visitors the chance to enjoy the gardens at one of their most peaceful and atmospheric times of day. 

Set against the stunning backdrop of the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey, guests can unwind with a cocktail, enjoy live music, sample delicious street food and soak up the atmosphere as the sun sets over the historic gardens. 

Whether it’s a date night, an evening with friends or simply an opportunity to experience one of York’s most iconic spaces in a completely different way, Evening in the Gardens offers a unique summer evening in the heart of the city. 

Tickets cost £7.50 and include a cocktail on arrival. Additional drinks and street food will be available to purchase throughout the evening. 

The event is suitable for those aged 18 and over.
