Public Discussion on Legacy of First World War Announced

The Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past (University of York) and York Castle Museum are inviting the public to an open conversation concerning the legacy of the First World War.

The discussion, which is free and takes place between 10am and 1pm on Saturday 13 June at York Castle Museum, will be led by local community group representatives and University of York postgraduates.

The event will offer an interactive opportunity for panellists and audience members to reflect on how we think about the First World War and its legacy today.

The discussion will consider how the war has been remembered over the last 100 years, what the importance of commemoration might be today and in the future, and whether we should alter the way we remember the war.

The discussion will bring to light some of the hidden histories that are often neglected in First World War narratives and provide the opportunity to decide whether commemorations should incorporate these histories.
