- Description
- Harquebusier's helmet, with low raised comb which rises to a small crest. The skull is of two piece construction. The fall is pivoted. The neckguard consists of three laminated plates, two at the back of the skull, the third and lowest, broadening out from beneath them. The two cheekpieces are attached to the sides of the skull by pierced and chiselled yellow metal (brass) hinges (the left one having an attached plume holder). The hinges themselves bear punched dot decoration. The skull, fall, neckguard are all embossed with a repeated chevron-like shape. All rivets are of yellow metal (brass) and around the edges of the skull, cheekpieces and neckguard are small holes for the attachment of the lining. Exterior painted black. No makers mark. Possibly made in Greenwich about 1630. From the Seymour Lucas Collection.
